  • Pacific Arctic benthic macroinvertebrate identification

  • Maintained and troubleshot elemental analyzer and mass spectrometer

  • Analyzed over 1,000 samples for %C, %N, δ15N, and δ13C

FACULTY RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Horn Point Laboratory, Cambridge, MD 

Faculty Member: Dr. Jeffrey Cornwell

  • Researched and analyzed biogeochemical reactions in the Chesapeake Bay through fieldwork and laboratory analysis

  • Sampled for denitrification reactions on an oyster aquaculture research site in St. Mary’s County

  • Preformed Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH) on 20 samples from the Baltic Sea

ST. MARY’S OYSTER SANCTUARY INTERN

St. Mary's City, MD 

  • Researched, developed, and implemented an oyster sanctuary monitoring program which involved collecting biomass, population density, and age structure pilot data for six reefs in the sanctuary

  • Wrote a handbook for future interns to use to evaluate the success of the oyster sanctuary

  • Collaborated with the St. Mary’s River Watershed Association to improve the quality of the St.Mary’s River by planting rain gardens, building storm drains, and educating the community on watershed protection

ST. MARY'S PROJECT RESEARCHER

  • Used nitrogen-loading data and stable isotope analysis to determine the major nitrate sources of the St. Mary’s River

  • Collaborated with Chesapeake Biological Laboratory and the University of Maryland Environmental Science Appalachian Laboratory to process the samples I collected in the field

  • Awarded Overall Excellence in Biology St. Mary’s Project

GENERAL MANAGER, ST. MARY'S RIVER WATERSHED ASSOCIATION

  • Plan and execute watershed restoration programs 

  • Hire and manage a staff of five summer interns

CONSERVATION JOB CORPS CREW CHIEF

​Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, Upper Marlboro, MD 

  • Managed and instructed seven at-risk youth in improving and protecting the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Worked jointly with the MD Department of Natural Resources and Parks Service to improve relationships between the community and state parks

ST. MARY'S RIVER WATERSHED ASSOCIATION MENTOR

  • Worked with a high school student, to complete a capstone project for the STEM Academy

  • Helped design and implement a project comparing the benthic macroinvertebrate biodiversity in seagrass beds, sediment surrounding oyster reefs, and soft bottom habitat in the St. Mary’s River.

MARYPIRG STUDENT CLIMATE ACTION COALITION CAMPUS DELEGATE

  • Drafted a climate neutrality bill for Maryland colleges and universities (the FUTURE Act)

  • Advocated for the bill with legislators, organizations, and student groups
